East Bay Underground Market

Last Saturday we hit ForageSF's East Bay Underground Market with Lily Ann and Big Pete. Over 45 amazing food vendors descended into Oakland for the first ever Underground Market east of SF. It was awesome to see the sheer variety of food, as well as all the support for the vendors. Underground Market vendors don't have access to commercial kitchens or food trucks, so events like this are one of the few ways they can share their creations with the public. (And our stomachs.)

Does anyone know who created their sign? It's gorgeous.

The line stretched for blocks but moved fast.

Raclette: bubbly broiled cheese melted and scraped, literally, onto a bed of potatoes and gherkins.

Only one broiler. Lines were long and people were antsy.

The goods.

Vietnamese pork shoulder with brown rice and fermented veggies. Outstanding.

Brandon Yee's pork and brisket sliders, served on a baked Chinese bau.

Bacon, bourbon and maple ice cream. Her basil lemon was amazing, too.

NYC's Hyperkat Studios is raising funds to print this awesome World Cup radial bracket. $25 donations get an 18" x 24" print, $40 donations get a 24" x 36" print. Summer's here and we can't wait to hit the State Fair. The rides are cool, but we're in it for the food. Corndogs, spicy elote, funnel cakes. That's the taste of Summer for us.

Minneapolis-based graphic designer Allan Peters shares our passion for food on a stick with his Posters-On-a-Stick series. Featured are the iconic corn cob and corndog, and the enigmatic pickle-on-a-stick. We're from California. We cannot vouch for these. But check out all the other stuff you can get on a stick in Iowa!
